To coincide with Tina Turner’s 2009 European tour — including dates at London’s O2 Arena, Sheffield Arena, Dublin O2, Manchester MEN Arena and Birmingham Arena — a Rainbow Beach team track appeared on the release Tina: The Platinum Collection.

Del Afrique live on BBC Radio Lancashire for Martin Luther King’s birthday
Del Afrique was interviewed by ‘Gilly’ and sang live on BBC Radio Lancashire, joined by Abdul Kheratkar (Lancashire Library and Information Service), Hina Gohil (Learning Revolution project) and County Councillor Mike Otter.

“I was quickly hooked by the narrative… the whole cast gave a singing, dancing and marching performance and put across a very clear picture of what it must have been like to live in ‘Black’ America from the 1940s to the 1970s… I heartily recommend this production to everybody — the acting is top notch and the play just flies past.”

2009 Black History Month — Lancashire library tour
A full month of music, drama and poetry performances and workshops across Lancashire library branches, HM Prisons Kirkham and Buckley Hall, and the National Football Museum. An eleven-track CD of the music and poetry created during the tour is now available in all 77 Lancashire Library reference sections.

Rainbow Beach: The Johnson’s Story broadcast as a radio play
Broadcast on Preston FM, celebrating Martin Luther King’s birthday, alongside workshops at Lancaster & Morecambe College — auditioning, director’s workshops, marketing strategy, vocal warm-ups and staging for crowd scenes — and a full performance at the Hexagon Theatre, Morecambe, which sold out.

Black History Month launch & documentary begins filming
A documentary film began following the progress of the scriptwriter, songwriter, director, actors, musicians and singers. Activities included a filmed performance at County Hall, Preston; press coverage in the Lancaster Citizen and Visitor; a showcase at the Midland Hotel, Morecambe; an exhibition at Lancaster Central Library; and performances at a Lancaster HM Prison and for the homeless at the Arc, Lancaster.
